This adds adds extra smoky, roasted flavours and colour to the wine.

For Beer, oak chips work amazingly well in stouts, porters, dark ales and barley wines. In stouts and porters, toast the oak as it gives extra toffee, coffee and chocolate notes to the beers. Amazing in imperial stouts!!!

Adding Oak to beers, we would recommend ageing on the oak chips. You don't need to sanitise the oak as it naturally kills bacteria.

Use from 25g to 50g depending on how strong you want the oak flavours. Due to the small size the oak flavours are imparted quickly. Contact time will depend on the intensity of you that you desire. 1 week to 4 weeks is normal.

We recommend putting the oak chips in a sterilised straining bag for easy removal once you hit the desired level of oak aromas and flavour.

Oak also works really well in traditional IPA's as these were originally transported in oak barrels from England to India on board ships for the long journey around the tip of South Africa and back up to India.

The blue in the photo with the chips is the tip of a pen to give you an idea of the size of the oak chips.
