This is a resealable pouch of 10 Campden Tablets. Use them to subdue the natural yeasts that are present on fruit, vegetables & flowers.  Campden tablets are usually needed in cider, fruit wine and vegetable wine.

Adding 1 crushed campden tablet per 4.5 litres of juice, to fruits at the beginning of the wine making process, subdues the natural yeasts allows you to add your preferred yeast and control the fermentation to give you the best wine possible, giving consistency, flavour and stability.  The cultured yeast will do the hard work of converting the sugar to alcohol, while the wild yeasts do their thing in the background creating some interesting flavours.  Pitch your desired yeast 24 hours after adding the campden tablet.

Campden tablets release a small amount of sulphur dioxide. This is heavier than air, so sits on top of your juice and prevents natural airborne yeasts and bacteria from starting your fermentation. 

Campden Tablets are a de-oxygenator. They capture any stray oxygen that can oxidise your fruit or wine, therefore helping to keep your wine looking its best.  Oxygen can react with your ingredients so capturing it helps keep their natural colour.

Campden tablets are a measured quantity of Sodium Metabisulphite which is the perfect measure for 1 gallon (4.5 litres).

How to Use Campden Tablets:

To Subdue the Natural Yeasts: Stir in 1 crushed campden tablet for every gallon (4.5litres) of fruit juice.  Leave for 24 hours and then add your cultured yeast.

To Help Prevent Infection When Bottling: You can add 1 crushed campden tablet for every gallon (4.5 litres) of wine / cider after it has fermented to keep it free from bacteria and oxidisation during the bottling and siphoning process. 

They can also be used as a steriliser before you start the homebrew. You can use 5 crushed tablets in a pint of hot water.  Coat all surfaces in the solution, leave for 10 minutes and then rinse with cold tap water.

These must not to be swallowed.  If they have been swallowed, you must call a doctor.

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. If contact with eyes, flush with tap water for 10 minutes. if irritation continues, contact a doctor.
